Today Microsoft made a couple big Announcement with Office 365 implementations. The first is that Lync, both on-premises and online will be renamed Skype for Business in the first half of 2015. The second announcement is the global availability of Clutter for Office 365. Clutter uses machine learning to remove mail items from your inbox to help make you more productive when interacting with email.

On the Lync rename I am a bit torn. On one side I kinda understand why the rename, but on the other I think that “merging” the consumer and business services under one umbrella name creates confusion for both end users and IT organizations. We have seen this with the OneDrive and OneDrive for Business.

I am really excited about the rollout of Clutter. Managing a mailbox has become harder and harder with the volume of emails a user receives. This will help me get to the important emails first and then when I am able, handle the “Clutter” email.
